A&E has canceled the controversial documentary about the KKK after discovering that producers had paid the participants. A&E finally canceled its controversial docuseries on the Ku Klux Klan — but not because of the backlash. Barely two weeks before the documentary was set to debut on Jan. 10, the network announced Saturday that it was pulling the show from the schedule because the subjects of the series had been paid by producers. “The documentary 'Escaping the KKK' was intended to serve as a close look at anti-hate extractors focused on helping people leave the Ku Klux Klan — the racist hate group with a long history of violence against African Americans and others.
